Clear

OK, SO WE GRAB A SEAT AND HAVE A FEW WORDS WITH OUR CREATIVE FROM NOVI SAD – FINALLY.
-Interview with Will Mydell

Clear? Yes, correct…let’s get something clear. Novi Sad, hands down…produces some great talent. This guy Aleksandar has been  shooting some amazing images and sending major contributions to the 7Hues family. Each editorial we receive from Alek and his creative team tells a story and has a very unique style of fashion. He has a style that we here at 7Hues loves, and like all of our creative contributors who submit to us on a  consistent basis, we like to take time out to recognize them whenever we can. Even if we are spread out miles apart. We support those who support us, and in this issue, we would like to give a big kudos to Aleksandar…or as he calls himself, “Alex the Great”.

7H: Hello Alek..well, is it cool to call you Alek, or do you prefer Aleksander?
AG: Hey! Alek is fine!

7H: Great having you back for another feature. We’ve published your work twice right? I know you got the cover in January, which was awesome might I add. That was a very kinky shoot. Tell me a little more about that shoot.
AG: First at all – I was surprised and flattered same time…thanks guys! Before the shot I was obsessed with blue background on a photos…and blue color in overall. Same time, my wife opened modeling agency – GREAT Models Management, and I was like – you 3 girls, let’s do the shot lol Mastermind behind the styling was Irena Jovanovic, using brilliant pieces created by Nina Rajak. Did you check BTS video? It WAS kinky! lol

7H: I didn’t know you guys did behind the scenes footage. I may have to get you guys to send that over so we can feature it on our site. Can you tell us about how you got started in photography? How did you develop an interest in photography?
AG: I was born in 1979 in Novi Sad, the capital of culture in former Yugoslavia. Ever since I was a child, I expressed great interest in different forms of art, especially music, fine literature, cinema and photography. I was a guitar player for a few influential rock bands at the time and I was doing photography as a hobby, but having to support my family in a country torn by wars and constant crisis, I was forced to put my real interests and talents a side for a while.

7H: What equipment do you prefer to use? What’s in your camera bag?
AG: I shot with whatever I can…even with my phone. At the moment, my weapon of choice is Canon 5D mk III, with 85 1.2 L lens. Beside that, I love to useSigma Art 35mm, 135 for portraiture…and sometimes my 1965 gem – CZ Jena Biotar 75/1.5 for a swirly bokeh and that vintage feel.

7H: Do you collaborate well with second shooters or assistants?
AG: Yes, of course. In order to focus on shooting, I always have assistant to help with lightning, lenses and stuff so I can concentrate on a light and emotions.

7H: What photographers from the past or present have influenced you the most?
AG: That’s a hard one…I trying not to look too much around, and more to focus on my own style…then
sometimes some photo pop up on my Instagram or FB and I am like “wow”! I like some sets from Mariano Vivanco for example, not all of it, but there’s some genial work! For example sets he did with Rihanna and Ondria Hardin…hat down.

7H: This April’s editorial though…claps Wow…very creative and colorful. You always present us with great work Alek. What went into the thought process of this shoot? Who was the genius behind the wardrobe styles? How long did it take to plan out?
AG: Thank you, I am glad you liked it…I do! I came up with basic idea to my friend stylist Srdjan Sveljo…and basic concept was – let’s put a bunch of clothes on a model! You know…there’s a strong message behind this editorial. Srdjan came up with his genial ideas…as always, and that’s it! Srdjan Sveljo is a friend of mine, and we share similar aesthetics…thus, he’s my favourite stylist to work with. Pure genius! I can easily say that this is his editorial, not mine 🙂

7H: Do you use the same team of stylist and make-up artist every-time you shoot? Or do you switch it up from time to time?
AG: I am switching, depends on what I have in mind….and I am always open to new ideas, as long as it fits into my aesthetics and philosophy. Definitely, I love to work with few models, stylist Srdjan Sveljo (Rodmaniac editorial) and mua Vesna.

7H: What’s the most important thing you want potential clients to know about you?
AG: I shoot for fun, but I am taking my photography very seriously. No compromise!  Same time I am open for new ideas, and I like to create and experiment…as long as it fits into my aesthetic.

7H: Well thanks alot for chatting with us Aleksander. We can’t wait to see what you present us with next. I’m pretty sure it will be as memorable as your last editorials.
AG: Many thanks guys. Mucho love xx
