Aussie Style

ADVERTISING

With the recent success of the Sydney Fashion Week, the rest of the world got a bit more insight into the Aussie style. Known to the rest of the world as the Down Under, Australia has always been both very international, and very unique in its approach to fashion. From famous actresses such as Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, to super-models like the beautiful Miranda Kerr, this country is certainly not lacking in style icons and powerful trend-setters. There is something very spirited about Aussies, so it’s no wonder that the rest of the world is falling in love with their trends. They are redefining the world of fashion, and to emulate their style, you first need to understand what it is that makes them so successful.

THEY ARE SIMPLE AND LAID-BACK

You spend three hours getting ready for a party. Your makeup is flawless, your dress is perfect and everything is in its place. And then an Aussie girl walks in, sun-kissed skin of a goddess, cheerful and relaxed smile on her face, hair loose and a little tangled. She’s wearing some simple frock that you didn’t pick because it didn’t look dressy enough, but on her, it’s pure haute couture.

Once you manage to stop gaping at her perfect blend of light-hearted attitude and high fashion, you might want to notice what it is that makes their style work so well. Simply enough, they have fun with it. Their laid-back style is perfect for the streets, but even when wearing high fashion, Aussies know how to make the garment work for them.

THEY ARE BOLD

Instead of just following international trends, Australians make their own. Bold prints, big jewellery, silk, satin, anything that makes a statement. From stylish crop tops that make any outfit sexy to bright maxi dresses and colourful jumpsuits, they love eye-catching looks. Don’t be afraid of colour, don’t be afraid to try new things. There’s no need to be constantly subdued and timid with your style. Fashion is a form of art, it’s the same as painting, as makeup, as anything. You learn the rules well, but then you break them for fun and to see what happens. Instead of blindly obeying directions, try relaxing and stepping out of your comfort zone. You’ll come up with some brilliant things.

THEY PAY ATTENTION TO COMFORT

If you’re going to go to a party in ridiculously high stilettos and spent the entire night sitting down because your feet hurt too much, why did you go in the first place? To show off your sexy dress that no one’s going to pay attention to because they’ll be busy having fun on the dance floor? Aussies know that comfort doesn’t really need to be sacrificed for beauty. If your fashion isn’t functional, then it’s lazy and ridiculous. If you’re wearing a complex garment that makes you look strained and uncomfortable, you won’t look stylish. Pick pieces that work with your body.  With the increasingly popular athleisure trend taking over

the streets, there’s no more excuse for designers not to make their clothes both pretty and practical. Loose, comfortable clothes are Australian specialty, so they’ll pair their high-waisted jean shorts with an oversized chiffon shirt, throw on a cute hat and walk down the streets dripping with style and attitude. Times are fast and you want clothes that can get you through the day in one piece. From work, to family life, to late night parties, strive to always wear something that both looks and feels good.

If you want to dress like the Aussies, then you have to learn how to incorporate your own style into what’s trendy rather than letting the current fashion craze control you. Have fun with your clothes, you’ll never figure out what works for you unless you try different things.
